Fluorescent Corals and other Marine Invertebrates

Reef corals and other marine invertebrates show colours with amazing diversity. Some are visible in daylight, others such as green and red fluorescence are only visible with UV or blue light illumination in the dark. Dr Anya Salih from the University of Sydney has done extensive research on the subject finding out that having fluorescence in corals are important in reducing global warming induced coral bleaching. The displayed pictures alternate - first, photographed with normal strobe lights and then taken with UV lights. To find more fluorescent pictures please click here.
